Arrived in Vegas on 17th June (SG 18th June)
The first sight that welcomes us is the BIG Las Vegas sign with slot machines. The airport is peppered with slot machines, even at the baggage claim!!
The weather was ok. Didn't feel that it's extremely hot.
The cab fare was USD25 although it was just a short distance, perhaps from changi airport to pasir ris. The meter was moving damn fast, probably faster than my heart beat. It jumps every 1/12 mile (according to the table of charges).
The Platinum Hotel is nice. The only hotel without casino it seems in Vegas. The suite comes with a kitchen well supplied with crockery, microwave, oven, dish-washer. But there are no beverage/tidbits supplied.
Went out for a walk after settling down. By then, it's already 8pm. The air is pretty cooling, although sometimes you can feel the hot air rising from under your feet, or coming from the cars caught in the jam along the strip.
Went hunting for food, bought the tickets for the Grand Canyon Maverick Helicopter ride for Mon, and played a few rounds of slots and roulette. The dealer at Flamingo Casino taught us how to bet on roulette, min $10 on the individual numbers, min $10 per placement on the outside. Lost a bit of money there. No gambling luck.. :P
On our way back, we bought some snacks from this 24hr provision shop. A few drinks, 4 instant noodles, one pkt snacks, one bottle of painkiller costs almost USD25. whoa.. The nissin cup noodles cost $0.69, cheap and nice! although gotta eat 2 bowls before you are satisfied.
Day 2
woke up around 12pm. Today was hot. Went to Gameworks, which was started by Steven Spielberg, nothing exciting there. Its neighbours are more interesting though. There is Everything Coca-Cola and M&Ms World. 3 storeys high filled with their collectibles. Took a picture with the polar bear from coca-cola. The bear is sooo cute!
tried Panda Express's fried rice and orange chicken (which is something like the sweet and sour pork). The orange chicken is nice but the fried rice is tasteless.
Went back to the hotel. Ms Cheang gotta prepare for her dinner.
Day 3
Keep waking up and falling back to sleep again. Ms Cheang has gone for her meeting early in the morning at 8plus. She keep coming back to get things which disturb my sleep as I got to unlock the door. Finally got up around 4pm. hahhaha..
Went snack shopping on my own at the convenience store near the hotel. Wow, today is even hotter than yesterday! Feel like in an oven. Bought a choc, beef jerky, 2 cookies, a few pastries, small milk, can of coffee (11 items) = USD17. They don't display the prices on the items. When the shopkeeper scanned the items, the prices seemed reasonable, ranging from 0.99 to 2.39. But I think I bought too much sweet stuff which I may end up not eating, so kinda regret spending so much. Could have spent it buying more instant noodles. :P
Well I think I am going to sleep some more later....
Ms Cheang just came back, carrying goodies from her meeting. -.-!! I shouldn't have bought those snacks earlier if I had known...
